Roshan Digital Account Inflows Cross $14 Billion as September Adds $251 Million

Roshan Digital Account inflows reached $14.16 billion by the end of September 2026, the State Bank of Pakistan has reported. Overseas Pakistanis sent $251 million through the accounts during September alone. The cumulative total is now the highest since the scheme was launched in 2020.

The monthly figure was slightly lower than August, when inflows stood at $259 million. Even so, the stock of money that has entered Pakistan through the channel keeps rising. The number of accounts reached 975,602 by the end of September, after 9,458 new accounts were opened during the month.

Roshan Digital Accounts let non-resident Pakistanis open a bank account in Pakistan from abroad. Holders can operate the account remotely, and they can invest through it in government certificates and in the stock market.

Roshan Digital Account inflows: where the money sits

Of the cumulative inflows since launch, $2.15 billion has been repatriated, and $8.94 billion has been used locally. That leaves a net repatriable liability of $3.07 billion. In plain terms, that is the amount still held inside the system, in balances and investments, which holders could take out under the rules.

Cumulative net investments through the accounts stood at $2.27 billion in September. Islamic Naya Pakistan Certificates accounted for the largest share, at $1.38 billion. Conventional certificates held $740 million, and Roshan equity investments stood at $153 million.

The monthly movements were mixed. Islamic certificate investments rose by $43 million during September, and conventional certificates rose by $24 million. Equity investments, by contrast, fell by $2 million. The balance held in accounts slipped by $4 million, to $725 million.

Repatriation also slowed. Holders took $16 million out of the country in September, down from $23 million in August. At the same time, funds used inside Pakistan rose by $170 million during the month, taking cumulative local use to $8.94 billion.

A steadier channel than headlines suggest

The figures give the scheme a useful place in Pakistan’s external finances. Remittances remain the bigger flow, and they rose 14% to $10.9 billion in the July to September quarter. Roshan accounts are different in kind, though. They are not only transfers. They are deposits and investments that stay in the banking system until the holder decides otherwise.

That distinction matters for a government trying to rebuild buffers. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said this week that the economy should grow by more than 4% this year, with over $1bn expected from privatisation. Diaspora money held in certificates supports the same effort, because it finances the state directly rather than passing through informal channels.

The equity slice is small, at $153 million, and it dipped in September. That dip came in a soft month for the market, when the stock exchange gave up early gains despite an IMF agreement. Certificate holdings, which offer a fixed return, grew over the same month. The pattern suggests that diaspora savers still prefer certainty while markets stay unsettled.

One comparison puts the cumulative figure in context. Inflows in the current financial year have reached $792 million so far, against $545 million in the same period a year earlier. April 2026 remains the strongest single month on record, with $321 million received.

The Roshan route, however, remains the only one built specifically for Pakistanis abroad who want both an account and an investment window in a single application.
