BankIslami, one of Pakistan’s fastest-growing Islamic banks, reported a profit after tax (PAT) of Rs3.1 billion for the nine months ended September 30, 2026. The bank’s total deposits stood at Rs630.7 billion, reflecting continued customer trust in its banking services.

BankIslami’s current accounts have grown by 9.7 per cent since December 2025, raising their share of total deposits to 50 per cent, up from 43.6 per cent at year-end 2025. This improved deposit mix strengthened the bank’s CASA ratio to 74.7 per cent, compared to 71.2 per cent in December 2025.

What a rising CASA ratio means

CASA stands for Current Account and Savings Account — the two cheapest sources of deposits for a bank. When a bank holds more of its money in these low-cost accounts rather than expensive fixed deposits, it pays less interest (or, in Islamic banking, less profit) to depositors and keeps a wider margin for itself.

A CASA ratio above 74 per cent places BankIslami among the stronger Pakistani banks on this measure. For ordinary customers, it is also a sign of loyalty: people are keeping their everyday operating money with the bank, not just parking funds for high returns.

The bank’s total income for the period stood at Rs31.9 billion, while its Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) stood at 14.9 per cent, well above regulatory requirements. The CAR measures the buffer a bank holds against losses, and 14.9 per cent gives depositors comfort that the bank can absorb shocks.

The Riba-free tailwind

Earlier this year, the bank was recognised as Pakistan’s Best Islamic Digital Bank by the Euromoney Islamic Finance Awards for its efforts to bring tech-enabled banking solutions closer to customers. BankIslami also won a Bronze award in the Creative Excellence category at the Dragons of Asia Awards 2026.

“As the country moves towards a Riba-free financial system, Islamic banks have a central role to play in making this transition possible. For us, that means making Islamic banking easy and accessible for everyone, and our efforts are a reflection of that,” said Imran H Shaikh, President and Chief Executive Officer of BankIslami.

“Our financial results are a sign of the growing trust in Riba-free banking, and we will keep working to earn the trust of more customers as we carry forward our mission of Saving Humanity from Riba,” he added.

Pakistan has been working towards a Riba-free banking system under the Federal Shariat Court’s directives, and the State Bank of Pakistan has been steering the conversion of conventional banking towards Islamic models. This structural shift has given Islamic banks a growing pipeline of customers switching from conventional accounts — a trend visible in BankIslami’s rising deposit base.

A growing branch network

With a nationwide network of over 560 branches, the bank continues to expand across retail, corporate, cash management, investment banking, trade and home remittances, with a focus on customer experience.

Home remittances remain a key segment for Pakistani banks, with overseas Pakistanis sending record sums home in recent months. Islamic banks have been competing aggressively for this business by offering digital onboarding and same-day account opening.

Digital banking as a growth lever

The Euromoney recognition as Pakistan’s Best Islamic Digital Bank points to where the bank sees its next phase of growth. Across Pakistan’s banking sector, the shift to mobile and internet banking has cut the cost of serving each customer while widening reach far beyond the branch network.

For a bank with 560-plus branches, the combination of physical presence and digital channels covers both ends of the market — salaried workers in cities who rarely visit a branch, and customers in smaller towns where the branch remains the main point of contact. The 9.7 per cent growth in current accounts since December suggests both channels are pulling their weight.
