Haris Rauf Completes Adelaide Strikers Signing
Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has signed for Adelaide Strikers for the entire Big Bash League season 2026-27. The club confirmed the signing on November 2, 2026, ahead of the 16th edition of the Australian Twenty20 tournament.
Rauf, 32, leaves Melbourne Stars after a long run with the club. He has played 33 Big Bash matches for the Stars since 2019, and he will now represent the Strikers through the whole campaign.
He is one of three international recruits in head coach Tim Paine’s squad. Former England captain Ben Stokes and New Zealand batter Mark Chapman are the other overseas players signed for the season.
Adelaide Strikers signing: what Rauf said
Rauf said he was excited to join the Strikers and play with the squad’s leading names. In a statement, he said: “The Strikers have a strong squad with world-class players like Ben Stokes, Matt Short (Strikers captain) and Mark Chapman, so I’m really excited about the opportunity to play alongside them.”
He added: “We’ve got a talented group and I’m looking forward to contributing wherever I can to help the team push deep into the finals and compete for a championship.”
The words matter because Rauf has signed for the full tournament, not a short stint. Paine said having all international players available for the entire tournament was a key priority in recruitment, and the club believes it will be a clear advantage.
A Big Bash story that started as a replacement
Rauf’s Big Bash story began by chance. He first joined Melbourne Stars as an injury replacement for South African fast-bowling great Dale Steyn. He then made an instant mark by taking a hat-trick in his first Big Bash match.
That debut earned him a place in the official Team of the Tournament for BBL|09. He received the same honour again last season, after his most consistent campaign in Australia.
Last season was also his best with the ball in terms of wickets. He took a career-best-equaling 20 wickets, in what the club described as his most successful campaign since his debut season. His pace has always been his main weapon, and he quickly built a name as one of the fastest bowlers in the competition.
The move to Adelaide gives him a fresh start after seven years in the Stars set-up, counting from his 2019 debut. It also puts him in a squad built around full-season overseas availability, with Stokes and Chapman signed on the same basis.
What the move means for Pakistan fans
For fans in Pakistan, Rauf’s signing keeps a familiar face in one of the world’s most watched Twenty20 leagues. The Big Bash runs through the Australian summer, and Pakistani players have long used it to test themselves against top batting line-ups on fast, bouncy pitches.
Rauf’s role is clear. Paine called him a proven match-winner who has performed at the highest level in international cricket and franchise competitions around the world. The coach said: “He’s one of the fastest bowlers in world cricket and has the ability to change a game in an instant. We’re thrilled to welcome Haris to Adelaide for the entire tournament.”
The Strikers will hope that pace brings wickets in the middle and late overs, where Rauf has done much of his best work. His ability to bowl yorkers at high speed, and to take wickets in clusters, fits the late-innings role that decides close Twenty20 games.
Rauf has just come through a busy home season with Pakistan, including the ODI tri-series win over Sri Lanka in Lahore. The Big Bash will be his next assignment, and Strikers fans will watch his first spell closely to see how quickly he settles in blue.
