Nowshera Economic Zone Opens Rs400m Industrial Units

Three industrial units worth Rs400 million begin work in Nowshera

Three industrial units with a combined investment of Rs400 million began operations at the Nowshera Economic Zone Extension on Tuesday, with the potential to generate up to 500 direct and indirect jobs.

The units include Mani Foods, which has invested Rs200 million and is expected to create up to 400 jobs; Soorat Khan Plastic, which will manufacture recycled plastic pellets; and Dynamic Minerals Processing Unit, which processes locally sourced minerals for industrial use and export to the United Arab Emirates.

The start of operations was reported on 28 October 2026. The three units are different in character, and together they show three distinct routes by which a small industrial zone can create work: food processing, recycling, and mineral processing.

Mani Foods: the largest employer

Mani Foods accounts for half of the total investment and most of the expected jobs. Its Rs200 million investment is expected to create up to 400 jobs, out of the 500 direct and indirect jobs expected from all three units combined.

Food processing is labour-intensive work. It involves handling, sorting, packing and quality control, as well as transport and distribution. That is why a food unit can employ far more people than a unit of similar investment in a more automated sector.

The figure of 400 jobs is an expectation, not a confirmed headcount. How quickly those jobs appear will depend on production levels and on orders. Even so, as the largest single employer among the three units, Mani Foods will be the main test of whether the zone extension delivers work at the scale promised.

Recycled plastic pellets: a second route

Soorat Khan Plastic will manufacture recycled plastic pellets. In simple terms, this means taking used plastic, processing it, and turning it into small pellets that other manufacturers can melt and shape into new products.

Recycling work of this kind serves two purposes at once. It creates a product with a market, and it reduces the plastic waste that would otherwise be burned, buried or left in the open. For a province dealing with waste management pressures, a unit that turns waste plastic into a usable industrial input is a practical addition.

The reporting does not give an investment or jobs figure for this unit separately. Its contribution will be measured less in headcount and more in the volume of plastic it processes and the manufacturers it supplies.

Minerals processed locally, exported to the UAE

Dynamic Minerals Processing Unit processes locally sourced minerals for industrial use and export to the United Arab Emirates. The key word here is processing.

Minerals sold in raw form earn less than minerals processed before sale. Processing adds value locally: it creates work in sorting, crushing, grading and packing, and it produces a product that industrial buyers can use directly. Exporting the processed product to the UAE, a major regional trading hub, gives the unit access to a market beyond Pakistan.

As with the other units, no separate jobs figure is given for this unit. Its value lies in linking a local resource to an export market, and in keeping part of the value chain in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa rather than sending raw material elsewhere for processing.

Why economic zones matter for districts like Nowshera

Economic zones are designed to bring infrastructure, utilities and a single location for related businesses to a district that might otherwise struggle to attract investment on its own. Firms that locate together can share transport links, labour pools and services.

For Nowshera, the zone extension’s first three units are a beginning, not a finished programme. The test will be whether more units follow, whether the 500 expected jobs materialise, and whether the units sustain production beyond their opening weeks.

Districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa face particular challenges in attracting industry, including security perceptions and infrastructure gaps. A zone that can show working units, employed workers and exported products helps to change those perceptions for the next investor.

The combined Rs400 million investment is modest by national standards. For a single district, however, 500 jobs, a food processing employer, a recycling unit and a mineral exporter together represent a meaningful addition to local economic activity. The next reporting on the zone should be judged on employment actually created, not only on investment announced.
