Systems Limited Profit Rises 14% to Rs9.1bn in Nine Months

Systems Limited profit rose 14 per cent year-on-year to Rs9.085 billion for the nine months ended September 2026, compared with Rs7.973 billion in the same period last year. Earnings per share rose to Rs5.93 from Rs5.21, while net sales grew 33 per cent to Rs76.492 billion.

The company reported a consolidated profit after tax of Rs3.035 billion for the third quarter of 2026, up 9 per cent year-on-year, with earnings per share reaching Rs1.98. The company did not announce any dividend.

Those headline figures tell a story of growth, but the detail underneath is more mixed. Sales grew by a third, while profit grew by about a seventh. That gap is the most important part of the result, because it shows a company selling much more but keeping a smaller share of each rupee of sales as profit.

Where the sales growth came from

According to Topline Securities, nine-month sales growth was supported by strong performance in the Middle East and North America. Third-quarter sales in the Middle East grew 26 per cent, while sales in North America grew 41 per cent.

The Middle East continued to expand despite geopolitical tensions in the region. That resilience matters for a Pakistani IT exporter, because the Gulf has become one of the main markets for software and technology services from Pakistan. Growth there suggests demand held up even as regional uncertainty rose.

North American growth was partly attributed to the acquisition of Confiz, a step that added revenue from that market rather than relying only on organic growth. An acquisition can lift sales quickly, but it also adds costs, and those costs show up in the expense lines of the result.

Why Systems Limited profit grew more slowly than sales

Gross margin stood at 25 per cent in the third quarter, down from approximately 30 per cent a year earlier. Topline noted that margins declined across most regions, while the domestic segment’s margin improved to 21 per cent from 16 per cent in the same period last year.

Gross margin is the share of sales left after the direct cost of delivering services. A fall from around 30 per cent to 25 per cent means the company kept five rupees less from every 100 rupees of sales than it did a year ago. Across sales of tens of billions of rupees, that difference runs into billions.

The domestic improvement runs in the opposite direction. A rise from 16 per cent to 21 per cent suggests the home business became more efficient, or took on better-priced work, even as margins elsewhere narrowed. For readers following Pakistan’s IT sector, that split is useful. It shows the pressure came from international markets, not from the domestic business.

Costs rose across the board

Selling and distribution expenses increased 31 per cent year-on-year to Rs2.716 billion during the nine-month period. Administrative expenses rose 42 per cent to Rs6.340 billion. Finance costs increased 103 per cent to Rs499 million.

Selling and distribution costs cover the work of winning and serving clients. A rise of 31 per cent, close to the sales growth rate, is not surprising for a company expanding in new markets. Administrative costs, however, rose faster than sales, at 42 per cent. That line covers management, offices and support functions, and faster growth there can point to the cost of integrating an acquisition or expanding teams ahead of revenue.

Finance costs more than doubled, but from a low base. At Rs499 million, they remain small beside sales of Rs76.492 billion.

What the result means for investors

Earnings per share is the profit divided by the number of shares. A rise from Rs5.21 to Rs5.93 for the nine months means each share earned more than it did a year ago, even though margins narrowed. That is possible only because sales grew so fast that they outweighed the margin loss.

For Pakistan’s technology sector, the result carries a broader signal. A leading listed IT firm grew sales by a third in a difficult regional environment, with the Middle East still expanding and North America growing through acquisition. The challenge now is to protect margins while that growth continues.
