PSO Profit Q1 FY27 More Than Doubles

PSO profit Q1 FY27 more than doubled to Rs25.56 billion, up from Rs9.39 billion in the same quarter last year. Pakistan State Oil reported the result for July to September 2026, with earnings per share rising to Rs54.44 from Rs20.00 a year earlier. Higher sales volumes and an improved product mix supported the earnings, the company said.

Petroleum sales rose 17.8 percent year on year during the quarter, against industry growth of 7.1 percent. That gap pushed PSO’s market share up by 4.2 percentage points to 45.9 percent. In plain terms, PSO sold more fuel while the wider market grew more slowly, so it took a larger slice of the market.

PSO profit Q1 FY27: where the sales came from

Motor gasoline sales increased 23.2 percent to 968,000 metric tons. High-speed diesel sales grew 12.8 percent to 759,000 tons. Aviation fuel sales rose 15.5 percent, and PSO supplied 99.6 percent of the Jet A-1 market, which means almost every aircraft refuelling in Pakistan used its fuel. Lubricant sales increased 17.4 percent to 9,970 tons.

At the consolidated level, which includes Pakistan Refinery Limited, profit after tax reached Rs29.42 billion, with earnings per share of Rs62.66. The difference between the standalone and consolidated figures shows how much the refinery arm added to the group’s result.

Supply operations kept pace with sales. PSO imported 16 cargoes of petroleum products totalling 756,000 tons during the quarter, and it lifted 1.019 million tons of petrol and diesel from local refineries. The company added 37 retail outlets, taking its network to 3,727 sites across Pakistan, and its electric vehicle charging network expanded to 16 locations.

What the result means for PSO

The result extends a strong run for the state-owned fuel retailer. Feature Pakistan reported earlier that PSO was working with the government and the IMF on a plan to clear circular debt, with its market share already above 40 percent since July 2026. The new figure of 45.9 percent shows that share kept rising through the September quarter, which strengthens PSO’s hand in talks about receivables and margins.

Two items after the quarter ended also matter. PSO signed a government-to-government sale and purchase agreement with Oman’s OQ Trading, which widens its fuel sourcing options beyond existing suppliers. The company also said it kept managing Pakistan’s long-term liquefied natural gas supply portfolio during a period of supplier force majeure, working with the government to keep supplies flowing to the power and gas sectors. Its CSR Trust contributed Rs112 million to education, healthcare and community development during the quarter.

For motorists, the result does not change pump prices by itself, since prices follow government notification. It does show, however, that the country’s largest fuel retailer is selling more fuel at a time when the wider market is growing slowly, and that its retail network keeps expanding into electric charging as well as petrol and diesel.
