SNGPL Winter Gas Timings for Islamabad, Punjab and KP

The SNGPL winter gas timings introduce a gas load management schedule for domestic consumers in Islamabad, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, limiting supplies to three daily cooking-time slots from Wednesday, 4 November.

Households will receive gas from 6:30am to 9:00am, from 12 noon to 2:30pm, and from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Added together, the three slots give homes eight hours of gas a day: two and a half hours in the morning, two and a half hours at midday, and three hours in the evening.

The government is prioritising domestic consumers as falling liquefied natural gas (LNG) availability and rising winter demand put pressure on the gas supply system. The schedule is built around cooking times, which means homes will be without gas for long stretches between meals, including overnight and through the late morning and afternoon.

CNG and industry face cuts too

The domestic schedule is only one part of the load management plan. SNGPL has also reduced gas supplies to the compressed natural gas (CNG) sector from 50 million cubic feet per day to 35 million cubic feet per day, and plans to suspend supplies to the sector in the coming days.

The cement industry has already shifted to coal, while industrial consumers connected to the distribution network are also facing supply cuts. Industries connected directly to the transmission network, including export-oriented and other sectors, are currently receiving around 200 million cubic feet per day.

The power sector is getting approximately 140 million cubic feet per day, while the fertiliser industry receives around 53 million cubic feet per day. Further reductions in industrial gas supplies remain possible as winter demand rises.

What the SNGPL winter gas timings mean for households

For families, the practical effect is a fixed daily routine. Breakfast cooking must fit into the morning slot, lunch into the midday slot, and dinner into the evening slot. Water heating, room heating and any other gas use must also fit into those windows, unless a household has an alternative arrangement.

The timing matters because the schedule starts at the beginning of November, when cold weather is still building rather than at its peak. If demand rises further in December and January, the pressure on supplies will grow, and the load management plan may need to change.

Winter gas planning has been a recurring issue in recent years, with supply suspensions and load management proposals announced ahead of each cold season. This schedule is the first firm set of timings for the current winter for SNGPL’s domestic consumers in the three regions it covers.

Households in Islamabad, Punjab and KP should therefore treat the three slots as the working plan for now, and watch for any revision from SNGPL if supply conditions change.
