Twelve years have passed, yet Pakistan still remembers her name. On 2 November 2014, Capt Shumaila Nadeem Shaheed embraced martyrdom in the Wagah border suicide bomb attack. Therefore, her 12th shahadat anniversary brings her story back to the nation.

She was the first lady officer of the Pakistan Army to embrace martyrdom in the ongoing war on terrorism. In addition, she served with the Armed Forces Nursing Service (AFNS) at the Combined Military Hospital in Rawalpindi. She had been promoted to the rank of captain only six months before her shahadat.
Capt Shumaila Nadeem Shaheed: A Nurse in Uniform
Army nurses serve where the wounded need them most. They work long hours in military hospitals, and they care for soldiers far from their own families. Capt Shumaila Nadeem chose that life of service. Indeed, her uniform in the photograph shows the quiet pride of an officer who healed others for a living.
On 2 November 2014, she was at the Wagah border when a suicide bomber struck. The attack took many lives that evening. Her husband, her two young daughters, and her 14-year-old niece also embraced martyrdom in the same attack. In this way, one evening of terror changed a whole family forever, and one name became a story of sacrifice.
The Original Tribute
The tribute posted in her honour reads, in part, as follows:
Today is 12th shahadat anniversary of “The First Shaheed Lady Officer of the Pakistan Army” Capt Shumaila Nadeem Shaheed. She is the first female officer of the Pakistan Army to have embraced martyrdom in the ongoing war on terrorism.
Capt Shumaila Nadeem Shaheed Will Not Be Forgotten
Soldiers guard this country day and night like a wall before the nation. Nurses stand behind that wall, saving the lives of those who defend it. As a result, every year on 2 November, her anniversary will return. Above all, remember this: she was brave, she was ours, and Pakistan has not forgotten its daughter. Will you keep her memory alive? Finally, share her story, and let the nation know that her sacrifice still matters.
She gave her life in 2014, and her country gained a hero. Her name now stands with the shuhada of the war on terrorism, and her story will pass to the next generation. Therefore, we remember her not only on her anniversary, but in every prayer for the fallen.
