Big Relief for 200-Unit Power Users

Islamabad: The federal government has confirmed that it will continue providing subsidies to eligible electricity consumers under the 200-unit power category. The clarification came after reports created uncertainty among consumers about the future of the subsidy program.

Federal Minister for Energy Awais Leghari stated that the government has no plans to withdraw support for protected consumers who fall under the 200-unit power threshold. He emphasized that deserving households will continue receiving financial relief on their electricity bills.

The minister stated that the address was to address growing concerns among low-income consumers. As electricity costs remain a major household expense, many families fear that the government might discontinue the subsidy scheme.

However, Awais Leghari reassured consumers that the subsidy framework remains intact. He explained that the government wants to ensure that only eligible households benefit from the program while maintaining transparency in the distribution process.

Meanwhile, authorities have introduced a verification system through QR codes printed on electricity bills. Consumers who receive 200-unit power subsidies may need to provide additional information through this system. According to the minister, the process will help officials identify genuine beneficiaries and continue providing support without disruption.

In addition, the government plans to determine eligibility using the consumer’s Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) and household data. This approach aims to improve accuracy and prevent misuse of subsidy funds.

The minister also highlighted that the verification process will strengthen the overall subsidy mechanism. As a result, eligible families in the 200-unit power category will continue to receive assistance while the government improves monitoring and recordkeeping.

Furthermore, officials believe the updated system will make subsidy distribution more efficient. It will also help authorities target support toward households that need it the most.

The latest clarification brings relief to thousands of consumers across Pakistan. For now, households covered under the 200-unit power category can continue to benefit from government support while the verification process moves forward.

The government has advised consumers to provide accurate information whenever requested to continue receiving the subsidy without delay.
