Anthropic, the company behind the Claude AI chatbot, has officially filed for an initial public offering (IPO) in the United States. The Anthropic IPO filing reveals rapid revenue growth alongside massive reported losses, and it sets out an ownership structure that keeps control with the company’s founders.
The company submitted its filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on October 26, 2026. It plans to list on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol ANT, but has not yet announced its expected share price or how much money it intends to raise.
Anthropic IPO filing: revenue surges, losses remain high
Anthropic reported $16.3 billion in revenue during the first six months of 2026, compared with $1.2 billion during the same period last year. That is an increase of nearly 14 times as demand for the company’s AI products continues to grow.
Despite the revenue increase, Anthropic recorded an operating loss of $693 million during the first half of 2026. That figure was significantly lower than the $2.1 billion operating loss reported during the first six months of 2025.
The company’s reported net loss reached $80.7 billion. Most of that amount resulted from accounting adjustments related to convertible debt rather than money spent directly on running the business. Most of that net loss figure reflects a non-cash accounting charge, not operating losses.
Anthropic warned investors that it may not achieve or maintain profitability in the future.
From draft filing to official filing
Feature Pakistan reported on October 22 that a draft filing had already revealed the $80.7 billion half-year net loss, driven largely by a convertible-bond accounting charge, in Anthropic Posted an $80.7 Billion Loss in Six Months, Filing Shows. The official filing now confirms those numbers and adds the details that matter for investors: the Nasdaq ticker, the founder control structure, the customer base and the risk warnings.
The official filing therefore moves the story from leaked draft to formal regulatory document. The numbers are now on the public record through the SEC, and the company must answer for them in the IPO process.
Thousands of businesses pay for Claude
The filing also revealed the size of Anthropic’s business customer base. By the end of September 2026, the company had more than 11,900 customers spending at least $100,000 a year on its services.
Of these, about 1,900 were spending $1 million or more each year, and around 250 were paying at least $10 million a year.
Founders will keep control after IPO
Although Anthropic plans to sell shares to the public, its seven co-founders will retain control over major shareholder decisions. The founders will collectively hold 50.1 per cent of the company’s voting power through a special organisation called Founder LLC.
The group includes Dario Amodei, Daniela Amodei, Tom Brown, Jack Clark, Jared Kaplan, Sam McCandlish and Christopher Olah. Anthropic says this arrangement will help protect its focus on AI safety as the company grows, but it also means public shareholders will have limited influence over major decisions.
Anthropic’s Long-Term Benefit Trust, established in 2023, will also have the authority to appoint most of the board. The trust was created to ensure the company continues working toward its stated public benefit goals.
Anthropic warns about AI risks
The filing also highlights the potential dangers of advanced artificial intelligence. Anthropic acknowledged that increasingly powerful AI systems could create serious risks, including potentially catastrophic consequences for humanity.
The company says its unusual ownership and voting structure is intended to keep safety a priority after it becomes publicly traded. However, the arrangement has raised concerns because ordinary investors will have less control over the company’s direction.
The filing marks an important step toward the company’s public market debut, but the offering still needs to complete the regulatory process, and the price, share count and amount to be raised are not yet announced.
