SBP Take Slim Lead on 18-Wicket Day in Trophy Final

State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) took a slim first-innings lead over Markhor IT (MIT) Solutions on the opening day of the President’s Trophy Grade-I final at Bagh-e-Jinnah, Lahore. The President’s Trophy final day one ended with SBP on 136 for eight, a lead of 24 runs, after 18 wickets fell on a bowler-friendly pitch.

Two six-wicket hauls shaped the day. Sirajuddin ran through the MIT batting in the morning, and Test all-rounder Aamir Jamal answered with six wickets of his own as SBP’s batting collapsed in reply.

President’s Trophy final day one: MIT bowled out for 112

MIT captain Khalid Usman chose to bat first, and the decision backfired fast. Sirajuddin and Shahid Aziz bowled MIT out for 112 in 29.5 overs.

Sirajuddin took six wickets for 39 runs in nine overs. Shahid Aziz supported him with four wickets for 39 runs in 7.5 overs. Only five MIT batters reached double figures.

Atizaz Habib Khan top-scored with 29 off 30 balls, hitting three fours and a six. Salman Khan and Abuzar Tariq made 18 each. Opening batter Mohammad Farooq made 14, and Mohammad Ismail added 13 off seven balls. The rest of the batting line-up could not build a partnership as wickets fell at regular intervals.

SBP reply: collapse, then a 24-run lead

SBP’s reply started steadily, then fell apart in the same way. Opener Hasan Raza made 36, and wicketkeeper Ali Shan struck a brisk 27 off 24 balls. SBP reached 67 for two, then lost six wickets for 56 runs to slip to 123 for eight.

Aamir Jamal led the collapse with six wickets for 14 runs in 10 overs. Mohammad Ismail and Salman Aslam took one wicket each. SBP closed the day on 136 for eight in 36 overs.

Captain Rameez Aziz was unbeaten on 14, and Sirajuddin, the morning’s hero with the ball, was unbeaten on eight. The pair will resume SBP’s first innings on the second day, with two wickets left and a lead of 24 runs to build on.

One report put the close at 138 for six. The match report used here, based on the PCB account carried by Geo Super and backed by the scores published by A-Sports and Cricket World, records 136 for eight. The difference does not change the shape of the day: a low-scoring, bowler-led contest with SBP narrowly ahead.

Why the day matters

The final is a five-day match, so one low-scoring day does not settle it. But the first day sets the terms: MIT must bowl SBP out cheaply on the second morning and bat far better in their second innings, while SBP will want to stretch their lead past 50.

The pitch also drew attention. Eighteen wickets in a single day of a prestige domestic final is rare, and it points to a surface offering plenty of help to seamers, which both attacks used well.

Feature Pakistan followed both sides into the final. SBP and MIT reached the title match as the league stage closed, reported in SBP and MIT reach President’s Trophy Grade-I final as league stage concludes. The final itself was moved from Karachi to Lahore, reported in Presidents Trophy Final Moved From Karachi to Lahore. The Bagh-e-Jinnah staging was previewed in Presidents Trophy Final at Gymkhana.

Scores in brief

MIT Solutions 112 all out, 29.5 overs (Atizaz Habib Khan 29; Sirajuddin 6-39, Shahid Aziz 4-39). SBP 136 for eight, 36 overs (Hasan Raza 36, Ali Shan 27; Aamir Jamal 6-14). SBP lead by 24 runs with two wickets remaining in the first innings.

What happens next

Rameez Aziz and Sirajuddin resume on day two with SBP 24 runs ahead. If they add a useful partnership, SBP can put real pressure on MIT. If MIT strike early, the final stays wide open.
