JS Bank Profit 9M 2026 Up 67%

JS Bank profit 9M 2026 rose by 67 percent to Rs4.300 billion, up from Rs2.569 billion in the same nine months last year. The bank announced its results for the nine months ended September 30, 2026, on Thursday.

Profit before tax reached Rs8.932 billion, up by 58 percent from Rs5.665 billion a year earlier. Earnings per share increased to Rs2.10 from Rs1.25. The bank linked the improvement to deposit growth, cost control and a swing in credit loss provisions.

Total assets grew by 12 percent to Rs733.719 billion, compared with Rs655.636 billion at December 2025. Total deposits increased by 10 percent to Rs598.123 billion from Rs543.502 billion. The share of non-remunerative deposits improved to 43.35 percent from 40.87 percent at December 2025.

JS Bank profit 9M 2026: where the growth came from

Non-remunerative deposits are accounts on which the bank pays no interest, such as current accounts. A higher share of such deposits lowers the bank’s funding cost, since it pays less interest to attract the same amount of money. JS Bank said its focus on building a low-cost deposit base drove that improvement.

Fee income increased by 4.34 percent to Rs3.828 billion, which shows diversified revenue beyond interest on loans. At the same time, disciplined cost management held the rise in non-markup expenses to just 3.3 percent, reaching Rs23.152 billion. In other words, costs grew far more slowly than profits.

The largest single swing came from credit loss allowances. During the nine-month period, the bank recorded a net reversal of Rs1.733 billion, compared with a net charge of Rs3.182 billion in the same period last year. A reversal means the bank released money it had earlier set aside for bad loans, while a charge means it added to that provision. The swing between the two years therefore added several billion rupees to reported profit.

Capital position strengthens

JS Bank also completed its sixth Tier-2 Term Finance Certificate issuance of Rs4 billion during the period. Tier-2 capital acts as a buffer that absorbs losses after shareholders’ funds, and it counts toward regulatory capital strength.

Supported by improved profitability and the additional Tier-2 capital, the bank reported a Capital Adequacy Ratio of 13.30 percent as at September 30, 2026. That ratio measures capital against risk-weighted assets, so a higher figure signals a stronger cushion against loan losses.

Basir Shamsie, President and Chief Executive Officer of JS Bank, said: “Our nine-month performance reflects the steady progress we are making in strengthening JS Bank’s financial position and growing our core business. The continued growth in deposits, improvement in our low-cost deposit mix, and disciplined cost management are encouraging. We remain focused on sustainable growth, enhancing customer experience, and supporting the financing needs of key sectors of Pakistan’s economy.”

What it means for savers and borrowers

For savers, the deposit growth shows the bank attracted more funds in a competitive market. For borrowers, a stronger capital position and a larger deposit base give the bank more room to lend. The result fits a wider pattern of strong bank earnings this season. PSO’s quarterly profit more than doubled, mutual fund assets reached Rs4.72 trillion, and the stock market gained sharply in October trading. Savers watching rates can also compare gold prices, which rose sharply in the same period.

One caution applies to the headline figure. Part of the profit jump came from the credit loss reversal, which reflects past provisions rather than new lending income. Readers should therefore read the 67 percent rise alongside the steadier gains in deposits, fee income and cost control, which point to underlying business growth.
