Gold prices in Pakistan fell for a fifth day in a row on Saturday, taking the total drop over the past five sessions to Rs17,000 per tola.

The price of 24-karat gold went down by Rs2,500 to Rs422,036 per tola, according to rates issued by the All-Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association. The price of 10 grams of 24-karat gold fell by Rs2,144 to Rs361,827, while 10 grams of 22-karat gold dropped by Rs1,966 to Rs331,686.

A five-day slide, step by step

The losing streak started on Tuesday, when gold dropped by Rs3,600 per tola. It slipped another Rs900 the next day and Rs3,000 on Thursday. The biggest fall came on Friday, when the price per tola crashed by Rs7,000 to Rs424,536. Saturday’s decline of Rs2,500 added to the discount.

Gold was trading at Rs439,036 per tola before the slide began. It is now about Rs20,000 below its monthly peak of Rs442,036, recorded on 10 October. The latest slide has wiped out the gains gold made in the first half of October, when it briefly crossed Rs442,000 per tola.

Readers should note the two different figures doing the rounds. Saturday’s single-day fall was Rs2,500, and the five-day fall totals Rs17,000. The Rs20,000 figure is the gap between Saturday’s price and the 10 October peak, not a one-day loss.

The global market points the same way

The local market followed the global trend. The international price of gold fell by $25 to $3,995 per ounce, slipping below the $4,000 mark that traders watch closely.

Silver prices also eased. Silver per tola dropped by Rs7 to Rs5,858, while 10 grams of silver fell by Rs6 to Rs5,022.

Pakistan’s gold market tracks the world price closely because much of the metal is imported and priced in dollars. When the world price falls and the rupee holds steady, local rates usually follow within a day. That is what happened this week: five straight days of global softness turned into five straight days of local falls.

What it means for buyers and sellers

For buyers, a falling market rewards patience but punishes guesswork. A buyer who waited through the week saved Rs17,000 per tola against Tuesday’s price, yet no rate guarantees the next session will fall again. Jewellers price fresh stock off the day’s association rate, so the 10-gram figures matter as much as the headline per-tola number for anyone buying a small item.

For sellers, the slide cuts the resale value of existing holdings. A tola bought near the 10 October peak is now worth Rs20,000 less at the association rate, before making charges and deductions that shops apply on buyback.
