Senate Told Noreen Niazi Getting Medical Care

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry told the Senate on Friday that Noreen Niazi is receiving all necessary medical care and was shifted to hospital on the recommendation of doctors.

Responding to a point raised by Senator Mohsin Aziz about her health, Chaudhry said the government was particularly sensitive to the health and welfare of people in detention and would ensure their rights and medical needs were fully protected. Tribune reported his remarks from the Friday sitting.

He said decisions about her treatment, hospitalisation and any further medical intervention would be taken by the medical professionals concerned. Her family was present at the hospital, he added, and the government had arranged the necessary facilities.

Noreen Niazi: what senators raised in the session

Niazi is a sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, and her health and detention were already a flashpoint in Friday’s sitting. Feature Pakistan reported that PTI senators protested on the floor over the treatment of PTI women leaders and activists, including Niazi, during a heated debate on poverty and detention.

PTI Senator Mohsin Aziz raised her health condition in the House, prompting the minister’s response. The exchange came during a session that also saw warnings about an alleged rise in extrajudicial killings reaching Islamabad.

Family access and the humanitarian appeal

Senator Azam Swati told the House about a recent telephone conversation with Hafeez Ullah Niazi, who appreciated the government for facilitating Niazi’s transfer to hospital and arranging a meeting with her elder daughter.

Swati described the arrangements as a positive humanitarian step. He urged the government to also allow her younger daughter to meet her, saying family visits should be facilitated on humanitarian grounds.

He said the matter should be viewed from a humanitarian perspective, beyond political differences, and called for consideration of similar relief for other family members.

Why the update matters

The minister’s statement answers the concerns PTI senators raised in the same sitting. It puts three points on the record: hospital care on doctors’ advice, family presence at the hospital, and medical decisions left to professionals.

What remains open is the family’s request for wider access. Swati’s appeal for the younger daughter’s visit, and for similar relief for other family members, was left as a request, not a commitment.

Her case has been in the news through the week. An earlier hospital transfer was reported on October 28, a relatives’ visit was reported on October 29, and a separate plea concerning Niazi came before the Lahore High Court on October 30.
