Imran Khan Shifa Hospital Transfer Sought by PTI

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has demanded an Imran Khan Shifa hospital transfer, saying the incarcerated former prime minister needs immediate treatment at an independent medical facility in Islamabad under his own doctors.

PTI said on Wednesday, November 4, that Imran’s blood pressure had reached 192 in recent days, The Express Tribune reported. The figure came from his sister Rubina Khan, who said Imran had conveyed it through his lawyer after a meeting at Adiala jail on November 2. The claim has not been independently confirmed by prison or government medical sources, and the report carried no response from the government or the prison authorities.

Rubina said her brother had never suffered from high blood pressure, and that his blood pressure had been normal as recently as a year ago. She said the family’s medical advisers found it unusual for a man over 70 to develop high blood pressure suddenly.

“As his family, we demand that he be immediately admitted to an independent medical institution in Islamabad for proper treatment, in the presence of his personal doctor and a doctor of my choice,” she said.

Imran Khan Shifa hospital transfer: what PTI is asking

PTI is asking for two things at once. First, an immediate move to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad. Second, treatment there by Imran’s personal physicians and doctors chosen by his family, rather than by doctors appointed by the authorities alone.

Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram said repeated ups and downs in Imran’s blood pressure were a matter of extreme concern. He accused the government of putting the life and basic rights of the country’s most popular political leader at risk by denying him proper medical facilities, access to his family, and treatment of his choice. Those are PTI’s charges, and they remain unproven in the report.

PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja called the blood pressure reading extremely alarming. He said the party would now build a considered strategy on the health of Imran and Bushra Bibi, after talks with the family, the party’s authorised bodies, and the parliamentary party.

“A full-force voice will be raised both inside the country and abroad,” he said, adding that protecting Imran’s health was the duty of the entire nation.

Imran’s son Kasim shared his aunt’s statement on X and wrote: “This high blood pressure is not normal. It is the direct result of this isolation.” He added: “If he is not freed soon, he will die in this cell.” Both remarks are the family’s own words, not medical findings.

The August court order behind the demand

Rubina said a Supreme Court decision from August 2026, requiring immediate medical treatment at Shifa hospital, had not been carried out. Sheikh Waqas Akram put the date of that order at August 18, and demanded that it be put into effect at once.

That history is what turns a health complaint into a legal demand. PTI is not only asking for a hospital bed. It is asking the authorities to carry out an order it says the Supreme Court has already given.

The Islamabad High Court has allowed Imran to meet family members, lawyers, and other associates twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. PTI says that, despite repeated court orders, access by family and party leaders has stayed largely restricted in recent months.

Rubina said the lawyer who met Imran on November 2 had been allowed to see him briefly after seven months. She said access to a lawyer was a basic right of every prisoner.

She also pointed to statements by the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, UN experts, the UN Committee Against Torture, and Amnesty International about Imran’s detention and treatment. She alleged that there had been earlier attempts on her brother’s life, including an assassination attempt, and said the family feared for his safety in prison.

“If he does not receive medical treatment now, anything that happens to him would amount to cold-blooded murder,” she said.

Why this demand lands now

The demand lands days before a key court date. The Islamabad High Court has fixed appeals by Imran and Bushra Bibi against their sentences in the £190 million case for November 10, as Feature Pakistan reported in Imran and Bushra appeals fixed for November 10. That hearing will bring the couple’s cases back before the same court that set the twice-weekly meeting rule.
