Rupee Ends Week at Rs276.75 Against the Dollar

The Pakistani rupee closed in positive territory against the US dollar on Friday, ending the week at Rs276.75 after gaining one paisa.

It was the 273rd consecutive day on which the rupee closed stronger against the dollar, a run that has continued since December 25, 2025, according to ProPakistani’s market report.

The picture against other major currencies was mixed. The rupee lost ground against the British pound and the euro, while gaining slightly against the Australian dollar, the UAE dirham, and the Saudi riyal.

The dollar run continues

The rupee’s closing rate against the dollar was Rs276.7522 on Friday, compared with Rs276.7618 on Thursday. The one-paisa gain extended a run of daily gains that has now lasted more than nine months.

For importers, students paying foreign fees, and families receiving remittances, the dollar rate is the most watched figure in the market. A stable or slowly strengthening rupee against the dollar keeps import costs in check and gives businesses more certainty when pricing goods.

The week as a whole was steady for the dollar rate. The rupee closed at Rs276.8022 on Tuesday, Rs276.7736 on Wednesday, and Rs276.7618 on Thursday, before Friday’s Rs276.7522. The total weekly move was only about five paisas.

Where the rupee fell

The losses came against the pound and the euro. The rupee lost Rs2.74 against the British pound, which closed at Rs371.1939 on Friday, up from Rs368.4530 on Thursday. Against the euro, the rupee lost Rs1.51, with the euro closing at Rs309.7965, up from Rs308.2849 a day earlier.

The rupee also lost 48 paisas against the Canadian dollar, which closed at Rs198.1685, and smaller amounts against the Malaysian ringgit and the Chinese yuan.

These moves reflect strength in the pound and euro themselves, rather than a general weakening of the rupee. When a currency like the pound rises globally, the rupee can lose ground against it even while holding steady against the dollar.

Where the rupee gained

The rupee gained 28 paisas against the Australian dollar, which closed at Rs194.5015. It gained one paisa each against the UAE dirham, at Rs75.3467, and the Saudi riyal, at Rs73.7455.

Those two Gulf currencies matter for Pakistan because of the large number of Pakistanis working in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Remittances from those countries are a major source of foreign exchange, and small moves in the dirham and riyal rates affect the rupee value of money sent home.

What the week shows

Read together, the week’s figures tell a calmer story than a single headline suggests. The rupee did not fall against the dollar. It gained, slightly, for another day, and the weekly move was minimal.

The falls against the pound and euro are real, and they matter for people paying for imports, travel, or education in Britain and Europe. But they sit alongside a steady dollar rate, which remains the anchor for Pakistan’s external trade.

For the week ahead, traders will watch whether the dollar run extends further, and whether the pound and euro hold their gains. For now, the rupee ends the week where it has spent most of the year: steady against the dollar, and moving against other currencies as those currencies move in world markets.
