Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has demanded the immediate resumption of Imran Khan meetings, saying access to the party founder has been blocked for 375 days.
Gohar spoke to reporters outside Parliament House in Islamabad on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. He said Tuesday was a designated day for such meetings, and the meeting should take place.
“Today is the day for meeting the PTI founder, and the meeting should take place,” Gohar said, according to the Tribune.
He described keeping Imran in jail without family meetings as “inhuman treatment”. He said regular meetings could have improved the political situation, and the long block had created serious complications in political affairs.
Why Imran Khan meetings matter to the PTI
Gohar linked the access issue to the wider standoff in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He accused political opponents of taking undue advantage of the emergency and governor’s rule in the province.
He said full details on the emergency and governor’s rule would be placed before a parliamentary meeting of senators and members of Parliament. He also stressed that political problems can only be solved through talks.
“Political problems can only be resolved through negotiations,” he said, calling for early and meaningful talks with the government.
The demand follows a day of sharp PTI criticism of the federal government. A day earlier, Gohar accused the government of using governor’s rule and the emergency as a pretext for political victimisation.
He said the party rejected both measures. At the same time, he said there could be no disagreement over the need to eliminate terrorism.
“Terrorism must be eliminated; there can be no two opinions on that,” he said.
Gohar also condemned the 30-day extension in the detention of Imran’s sisters. He said Aleema Khan was a non-political figure, yet she had still faced a further 30 days in detention.
He said 12 PTI members of the National Assembly were being held. He added that the party had no information about the whereabouts of its chief minister.
The emergency and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
The dispute over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa grew through late September, as security tensions rose and relations between the federal government and the PTI-led provincial administration worsened.
Federal ministers accused the provincial government of failing to deal with terrorism and governance problems. PTI leaders, for their part, weighed an in-house change or the dissolution of the provincial assembly.
On October 11, President Asif Ali Zardari approved the imposition of emergency and governor’s rule in the province, on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and after approval by the federal cabinet.
The government cited rising terrorist attacks, threats to lives and property, and what it called a breakdown of the constitutional system in the province. The measures invoked Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution, and the federal government also authorised the army to assist the civil administration.
That history now frames the PTI’s position. Feature Pakistan has reported that PTI lawmakers back talks to restore the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, while opposition leaders have criticised the government over stalled talks and restrictions on parliamentarians.
What happens next
Gohar’s immediate ask is simple: let Tuesday’s meeting happen. His wider ask is a return to talks between the government and the PTI.
For now, neither side has announced a fresh round of negotiations. The PTI says it will put its full case on the emergency and governor’s rule before parliamentarians, while the government has defended the measures as a response to security conditions in the province.
Whether the meeting takes place on Tuesday will be the first test of Gohar’s demand. A meeting would break a block that, by the PTI chairman’s own count, has lasted more than a year.
