Petrol Down to Rs376.06, Diesel Up to Rs398.07 for Oct 28

The federal government has cut the price of petrol and raised the price of high-speed diesel for Wednesday, October 28. The petrol diesel prices October 28 2026 revision puts petrol at Rs376.06 a litre and diesel at Rs398.07 a litre, according to a notification from the Petroleum Division.

Petrol falls by Rs3.19 a litre from its October 27 rate. Diesel rises by Rs2.25 a litre. The new rates apply for October 28 under the daily pricing mechanism, which replaced weekly revisions in July.

Petrol diesel prices October 28 2026: the new rates

The table below sets out the change from the previous day, using the Petroleum Division figures reported by The Express Tribune.

FuelOctober 27 rateChangeOctober 28 rate
PetrolRs379.25 a litreDown Rs3.19Rs376.06 a litre
High-speed dieselRs395.82 a litreUp Rs2.25Rs398.07 a litre

The arithmetic checks against Feature Pakistan’s October 27 report, Petrol Rises to Rs379.25, Diesel to Rs395.82: Rs379.25 less Rs3.19 gives Rs376.06, and Rs395.82 plus Rs2.25 gives Rs398.07.

The October 27 revision had moved both fuels up, with petrol rising Rs1.54 and diesel rising Rs2.16. The October 28 move splits them, giving motorists a small cut while diesel users pay more.

Why prices move every day now

On July 17, the government announced that petroleum prices would be reviewed and notified daily, replacing the weekly system. The change came as renewed tension between the United States and Iran kept global oil markets unsettled and raised concern over fuel supplies.

Daily revision means each day’s rate reflects the latest world prices, currency movement and taxes, rather than one fixed rate for a week or a fortnight.

International prices eased on Tuesday, even as they stayed near six-month highs. Brent crude fell by $2.09, or 1.8 per cent, to $113.72 a barrel, and United States West Texas Intermediate crude fell by $1.93, or 1.9 per cent, to $99.83. Traders pointed to Middle East peace talks, while the Houthi-Saudi conflict and worry over more fighting in the United States-Israeli war with Iran kept supply risks in place.

Pakistan imports most of its petroleum, so world prices and freight costs reach local pumps fast. OPEC+ decisions, Middle East conflict, sanctions on oil producers and disruption on routes such as the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea all feed into the daily calculation.

Relief scheme and austerity measures still in place

The price change sits beside two measures announced in September. On September 13, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a relief scheme offering Rs100 a litre off petrol for motorcycles, three-wheeler rickshaws and cars with engines up to 800cc.

The scheme covers an estimated 11.8 million people: 10 million two-wheeler users and 800,000 three-wheeler users on 20 litres a month (up to Rs2,000 each), and one million small-car users on 30 litres a month (up to Rs3,000 each).

On September 17, the government reintroduced fuel conservation measures. Shops, markets, malls, bazaars and grocery stores close by 9pm; marriage halls and marquees by 10pm; restaurants, cafes and food outlets by 11pm. Takeaway and home delivery remain exempt.

Those measures were tied to the same pressure behind daily pricing: high world prices and the need to cut consumption.

Energy costs reach households through more than the pump. Power tariffs are covered in Electricity Relief 250 Units Plan in Senate, and cooking fuel pressures in LPG Price Hike After Border Closure.

What happens next

For transporters, the diesel increase feeds straight into freight costs, and for farmers it raises the cost of running machinery, even though diesel sits well below its April peak of Rs520.35 a litre.

The October 28 rates are the latest step in a fast-moving sequence, and the next notification, for October 29, arrives within a day.
