AdalFi Plans Rs652m IPO, First Fintech on PSX

The AdalFi IPO, planned by Lahore-based digital lender AdalFi for next month, seeks to raise up to Rs652 million (about $2.35 million) to expand its Islamic and small-business lending services.

The AdalFi IPO would make the company the first fintech to list on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX). It would also place the company among the few startups to enter the country’s public market.

AdalFi said in a statement to Bloomberg that it intends to issue new shares as part of the IPO. The company has not yet announced the offer price or the exact dates of the subscription period.

How AdalFi works

AdalFi was founded in 2021. It helps banks and other lenders assess the creditworthiness of customers and small businesses with limited or no traditional credit histories.

Its business model splits the roles in lending. Banks provide the funds and retain the loans on their balance sheets. AdalFi earns a share of the income and assumes part of the lending risk. The platform has facilitated more than Rs110 billion in loans since its founding, according to the company.

This model addresses a gap in Pakistan’s credit market. Millions of small businesses and individuals lack formal credit histories, which makes banks reluctant to lend to them. A platform that can assess risk from alternative data can open credit to borrowers who would otherwise stay outside the formal system. Islamic lending adds a further dimension, since it serves customers who want Sharia-compliant finance.

A record year for listings

The planned listing comes amid a record year for Pakistan’s IPO market. According to data compiled by Bloomberg, 13 offerings have raised a combined Rs23.1 billion so far, marking the busiest year ever for listings in the country.

That momentum helps explain why a fintech is choosing this moment to list. A busy IPO market signals investor appetite for new names, including companies outside the traditional sectors that have long dominated the PSX. For startups, a listing also offers a path to raise growth capital from public investors rather than relying only on venture funding.

The trend is visible in other recent listings as well. Microfinance bank Abhi has planned a Rs3 billion IPO for November, covered in our report on the Abhi IPO. The stock market itself has been on a recovery run, with the KSE-100 index extending gains for a fourth straight session, covered in our report on the PSX rally. Corporate results have also been strong, with OGDC reporting a 53 percent rise in quarterly profit, covered in our report on OGDC’s results.

What the AdalFi IPO would signal

If the IPO goes ahead, it will test public investor appetite for a digital-first financial company. Fintech valuations rest on growth, technology, and risk models rather than branches and deposits. Investors will weigh AdalFi’s loan volumes against the risks of lending to thin-file borrowers.

For the wider startup sector, a successful listing could encourage other venture-backed companies to consider the PSX. Pakistan’s startup ecosystem has long depended on private funding rounds. A public exit route would give founders and early investors another option, and it would give ordinary investors access to a sector they have largely watched from outside. The country’s innovation standing has also improved, with Pakistan rising to 95th in the Global Innovation Index, covered in our report on the ranking.
